چکیده

We report the discovery of two very cold and massive molecular cloud cores in the region ISOSS J18364-0221. The object has been identified by a systematic search for very early evolutionary stages of high-mass stars using the 170μm ISOPHOT Serendipity Survey (ISOSS). Submm continuum and molecular line measurements reveal two compact cores within this region. The first core has a temperature of 16.5K, shows signs of ongoing infall and outflows, has no NIR or MIR counterpart and is massive enough (M ∼ 75M⊙) to form at least one O star with an associated cluster. It is therefore considered a candidate for a genuine high-mass protostar and a high-mass analog to the Class 0 objects. The second core has an average gas and dust temperature of only ∼ 12K and a mass of M ∼ 280M⊙. Its temperature and level of turbulence are below the values found for massive cores so far and are suggested to represent the initial conditions from which high-mass star formation occurs. Subject headings: Stars: formation — ISM: dust, extinction — ISM: kinematics and dynamics — ISM: clouds — ISM: individual objects: ISOSS J18364-0221— Astronomical data bases: ISO data base

Massive Infrared-Quiet Dense Cores: Unveiling the Initial Conditions of High-Mass Star Formation

As Pr. Th. Henning said at the conference, cold precursors of high-mass stars are now “hot topics”. We here propose some observational criteria to identify massive infrared-quiet dense cores which can host the highmass analogs of Class 0 protostars and pre-stellar condensations. We also show how far-infrared to millimeter imaging surveys of entire complexes forming OB stars are starting to unve...

Probing the initial conditions of high-mass star formation

Most work on high-mass star formation has focused on observations of young massive stars in protoclusters. Very little is known about the preceding stage. Here, we present a new high-resolution study of pre-protocluster regions in tracers exclusively probing the coldest and dense gas (NH2D). The two target regions G29.96−0.02 and G35.20−1.74 (W48) are drawn from the SCAMPS project, which search...

A very young star forming region detected by the ISOPHOT Serendipity Survey

We present a multi-wavelength study of the star forming region ISOSS J 20298+3559, which was identified by a cross-correlation of cold compact sources from the 170 μm ISOPHOT Serendipity Survey (ISOSS) database coinciding with objects detected by the MSX, 2MASS and IRAS infrared surveys. ISOSS J 20298+3559 is associated with a massive dark cloud complex (M ∼ 760 M⊙) and located in the Cygnus X ...

Early Phases and Initial Conditions for Massive Star Formation

Our knowledge of the initial conditions and early stages of high mass star formation is very limited. We will review recent surveys of regions in the early stages of massive star formation using molecular tracers of high density and dust continuum emission and consider the status of evolutionary schemes. Comparison to the situation for low mass, relatively isolated star formation will be used t...

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters

We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
